Walker Riley "Sacred Landscapes"

While doing research for my final paper, I came across an article titled "Sacred Landscapes." I was doing research on Native Americans to see the history they've had and how they value land that is sacred to them. The article basically focused on their actions to protect their land and how little things that people might overlook can be sacred to them. I didn't realize a lot of what has been happening to Native Americans, but after reading the article it's really sad to think about, and people should have a better understanding of the land actually means to them.

For decades, Native Americans have been fighting to protect their sacred places, but they keep finding them bulldozed. Places such as shrines and holy sites to the people are always being destroyed to make roads. Now over 75 percent of sacred land and tribal sites are unavailable to Native Americans. That number is ridiculous to think about, think about 75 percent of churches just being destroyed for new construction. A lot of people don't realize that these sites are just as valuable to the natives like a church is to the average american. Little things like water can even be sacred to the natives, but nevertheless it's still sacred. After reading the article and seeing what has been done to these people it's made me realize that people should look further into their religion because their beliefs have value as well, and maybe we can all even learn from it.
