While working on my annotative bibliography, I came across an article titled "The Nature of Peak Experience in Wilderness." It focused on the certain elements that trigger peak experiences in wilderness and how they can effect people. I found this interesting because I personally believe that wilderness contains different elements and certain parts of it are definitely the main reasons why people change out there. I know numerous people who have changed after an experience in the wilderness and this article supports a lot of what I believe.
It focused on a study of 39 people that was conducted. They visited wilderness areas and they were asked to have written responses that caused their peak experiences. Basically, most of them revealed that being away from the pressures, people. distractions, and concerns of the human world were reasons for their experiences. I know when I have been in the wilderness, these are exactly the reasons for the feelings I have. Dr. Redick also talked about this in class as well and how being away from everything really gives people time to think about things in their lives and nothing else. When someone is out in the wilderness, because they are away from all the distractions they start to realize that those things really aren't important in life. People start to think about what they really value in life, and this is why I love this article and the wilderness so much.
