Lauren Achtemeier: "Flow"

I found flow during spiritual journey interesting and applicable to everyday experiences. The merging of action and awareness during in an activity was true to many experiences I have had. It is stated by Turner that flow can happen during sports, performance, and religious experience. I feel flow on a daily basis if I am with my horses, and at less daily events such as performing or attending concerts, etc. I have also felt this flow since the same way now as I did when I was a child. It is interesting to realize that this flow it the component that makes memorable experiences joyful. I can think of many times when I was doing something fun, but wasn’t enjoying it because I was not in flow. I was concerned about other things, or really wanted to be somewhere else, despite the fun right in front of me. So to truly enjoy an experience, that distortion of time is necessary, as well as freeness from worry. By letting my attention focus around a central location instead of bouncing around amongst all other thoughts, I am able to fully enjoy myself.
