Sarah Price "The Gospel of Food"

I had been wondering why we say “grace” before we eat. It just seems weird. So, I asked God why. And He answered me through this class… Kip was telling us about this philosophy that “something must die in order for life to go on.” It was in relation to food, but also in relation to the gospel of Jesus Christ. He had to die so that we could live eternally. Maybe because today is Good Friday, or maybe because I’m really hungry, but I can’t stop thinking about this idea that something had to die in order for me to keep living – whether it’s sugar from a sugar cane, a chicken, or an apple. In order to sustain my life, something had to lose its own. I can’t stop thinking about that. The way God designed sustainable life emulates what His Son had to go through in order for mankind to live. It’s a sacrificial love that we take part in every day, but rarely (if ever) recognize. This is exactly why Christ says at the last supper, “Here is my body, which has been given for you.” As often as we eat or drink, we must remember what Jesus has done for us.
