Trey Reed, Why People Hike The AT

Taking this course has inspired me to become closer with nature. I have begun to take walks on the Noland Trail and reflect on whatever happens to be on my mind at the time. Also, I have been thinking about taking some time off from school and work to hike a portion the AT. Before I go I want to be educated about the trail and why people hike it. Currently, I am reading “A Qualitative Approach to Benefits." Why Individuals Hike the Appalachian Trail. The books talks about all the reasons to why people hike the AT. Hiking the AT would obviously provide great exercise, but I am most concerned with the reasons of relaxation and meditation. After finishing the book I hope to gather a group of friends and make a pilgrimage and have a first-hand experience with all of the concepts that we talked about in class.
