When we watched the video of Lion King in class, it gave a much better sense of what it's actually like on the Appalachian Trail. It gave both a sense of adventure and surprise. You never know what your going to encounter on the trail, and although it has a lot of benefits, there are plenty of times when it flat out sucks.
Lion King did a good job of showing the different weather and downsides to the trail. It could rain one day and be cold, and then be warm and beautiful the next. Lion King also suffered a lot of injuries like cuts and his sprained ankle, and also the bugs that were out there were a problem as well. A lot of people don't see this side to the AT, but I think it gave a better understanding of how it actually is. Also, while people are on the trail, they help each other out a lot and come together. This is another thing that people don't see a lot, yet it makes the trail so special.
My favorite part about the movie was the scenery. I would love to walk the trail due to the scenery alone. The open meadows reminded me of how the world used to be and the rocks, woods, rivers, and beaches showed a variety of landtypes. Also, the variety of animals was amazing too, and he saw chipmunks, deer, bears, and snakes. Overall, the movie made me a lot more interested in the AT, and gave a good understanding of what it's like.
