Victoria Hinz- Lion King

In class we watch a video about Lion King's through hike on the Appalachian Trail. The movie showed the ups and downs of hiking the trail and showed what it is actually like to hike the trail. The one scene I am not able to get out of my head is when he shows us the small Zoo along the trail. Next we see a large black bear laying on the cement ground lazily. The scene then changes to a bear roaming the Trail freely. The camera goes back and forth a few times, as if to say "Why do we need a zoo? We get to see the same animals out here on the tail, living how they are supposed to." The bear at the zoo looked nothing like the wild bear. He was over fed and bored. He was not able to be a true bear. To most people seeing a wild animal in a zoo can be exciting, but after seeing this scene, I realized that seeing animals in their natural habitat is much more exciting and magical. I am going to guess that the zoo along the trail does not get many visitors because the hikers live along side these animals. The hikers see the animals how they are supposed to live. I also got the sense that the hikers can relate to both the animals, on the trail they are free, but in their normal life they can feel trapped.
