Victoria Hinz "Hungry Mother State Park"

I spend last weekend in a cabin at Hungry Mother State Park in Marion, Va. I had driven to the park before, but it usually ended up being at night, this was the first time I would enter the park during the daytime. It was a completely new experience. I was always scared when driving up the mountain, following the winding, narrow, and fog infested roads. This time it was sunny, warm, and clear. I was not scared this time, I was excited. Excited to actually go for a hike and see the area. Before, it had been to cold to do anything outside of the cabin. This was the first time I went to the cabin when there was not snow on the ground. That next morning I woke up and could hear the rushing water from the stream out back. The park was a completely different place this time. It was spring and the park was walking up. The hike that day was beautiful. We did not go far, just a few miles, but as we got deeper into the wilderness, I could not imagine being anywhere else. I did not wanted to leave, when it was finally time to turn around.

The trails there are different than Noland Trail. There aren't as many people, no joggers, and no cars within sight. It was the most peaceful and rejuvenating experience I have had in a while. I cannot wait to go back once the semester is over to see how the park has changed, now that the weather is getting warmer and more plants will be in bloom.
