I've always had a love for nature and being outside. I had never really tried to analyze and put into words why until this class though. Nature is an escape for me, and for many people I've talked to.
It's calming and brings peace. For me, the woods are the spot I go to when I need to relax. Just like some people become calm and peaceful from meditating, I do simply from being in the forest. Nature brings me peace and happiness like no other place has. It does this because in the wilderness, the interactions between the environment and organisms make me think about what's important in life and what I want to achieve; survival and helping others survive is what's important, not status, or money. In busy life, it's easily forgotten. The forest in particular, also has a mystery to it. All you can see is what is directly around you, not knowing what is just feet from you. I relate this to life and not knowing what is coming, just as no one really does, but that doesn't mean it's bad. It just is what it is: unknown. Because of the afore mentioned reasons it also brings me a happiness that is hard to find anywhere else in this structured, hectic, and often unscrupulous world.
