Laura Hancock - "Communitas"

People in America and other socialy structured countries have lived in "community" since birth for centuries. We have been so conditioned to respect status and our 'place in society' that it's hard to even recognize that we are in a social structured community anymore. Moments where communitas - social anti structure - takes place, are in stark contrast to our everyday structure; when these moments of communitas happen, I almost always, remember these moments with great fondness. For me (and for most people I have talked to) moments of this "unmediated communication" (Turner 250) are points in my life that have made the biggest impression, and changed, and caused the most growth in me. They open my mind to new view points.
