Kyle Tobin Siddartha
A book that I have been reading outside of the class is Siddhartha, written by Hermann Hesse. The book is about a young man who decides to leave is home and proceed to lead a life of asceticism. In the beginning of the book this young man is famous in a small town for being the calmest, most well known Brahmin around. One day this boy experiences a sense of awakening and realizes he must travel the world to find peace within himself. When this young man asks his father to leave on a trip that will probably take over most of his life, he says no and that's all their is to it. This young man not taking no for an answer waited in the same positions for days on end, until his father gave in and saw how far his son was willing to suffer to go on this quest. I feel at this point of the story the young man shows a sense of maturity that would not be seen in someone his age. This young man is in touch with his inner self, but he wants to take it to a new level and reach a state kind of like nirvanna. As the story continues, the young man grows to see the world for what it really is and his perception of life changes drastically.
