Ellen Simmons Anxiety to write a 10 pager

This will be my last blog on the topic of my choice. I know that I speak for a majority of the class when I say that I had a lot of anxiety and stress about writing a 10 page paper. I am a chemistry major so I really have not had to write long papers. In my english 123 and ULLC 100 class we had to write 5-6 page papers. So, when I came into this ULLC course and Dr. Redick told us that we were going to have to write a 10 pager, I felt very worried about it.

Dr. Redick really helped the class gather our thoughts and information for the paper to make it easier to tie it all together in the end. The class in the library about finding resources was definitely a huge help! Once I had turned in my thesis statement, annotated bibliography, and outline I felt 100% better about writing the paper.

I wrote my paper and turned it in to my editor (Lisa) and she made some corrections. So, my next step is to revise it and turn it in. Now that the paper is written I feel accomplished that I wrote a 10 page paper with really no problem. I hope that I get my point and argument across to the reader. My paper is about reasons why people take long distance hikes. I found that people take long distance hikes for health benefits, to enjoy the outdoors and get in touch with nature, to find a spiritual journey, and to find peace and solitude in rough times. I enjoyed researching this topic and I found it easy to write about. So, I'm hoping that since it is my first long paper (over 6 pages) that the thesis is proved and that the overall the paper stays on topic and makes sense.
