Daniel Bogert "Protecting the Environment"

For my government class I read a book called "The Labrys". The book is a novel about a young girl on the island of Crete. She soon discovers the harmful pollution and pesticide use going on all around her. The book is not very good from a literary standpoint but it does raise environmental issues such as the dangers of pesticides and contamination of the water supply. The book opened my eyes to some of the damage that we are doing to our environment. For some reason, even though I love nature, environmentalists turn me off. I guess I see them as ultra liberal types with a holier than thou attitude. But I'm realizing that as a lover of nature, I must also support protecting the environment. Pollution and industrialization pose a real threat to the environment and that in turns compromise the beauty and purity of nature. Even though I don't always agree with the crazy antics of environmentalists, I can certainly agree with their desire to protect and preserve our natural world.
