Daniel Bogert "Communitas"

I'm not sure I've ever experienced anything like what Turner describes as communitas. Naturally though, I'm quite curious about it. Turner writes: "It is richly charged with affects, mainly pleasurable. It has something magical about it. Those who experience communitas have a feeling of endless power." Who wouldn't want to be a part of that? I often daydream about just dropping everything and travelling around the world. Part of the appeal of being a traveler in the liminal state is that there are no social constraints or restrictions. When you meet someone on the road, there is no reason to hold back or to act in a certain way. Why should you try to influence there opinion of you if you will never see them again after the journey? I feel as though this would give a person complete freedom to be themselves or even to act in a wild way that they would never act at home. I imagine that intimate relationships spring up often in a communitas setting. There's something very appealing about already having something in common with other travellers, and being able to skip the "getting to know each other phase" and form a strong bond right away. It's definitely something i'd like to experience at some time in my life.
