I am glad to have broken free of the old, misguiding definition of the world "sacred." Before taking this class, I understood the word to mean anything related to religion or of significant religious value. I now understand that the word means anything of significant value or meaning to an individual. It may seem a bit obvious, but some of your favorite things to do or valued personal possessions truly are things that are sacred to you. Thus, I now understand that the idea of sacred place is not always tied to locations of religious significance, but rather places that are of any type of emotionally significance to anyone. Did anyone else used to think about the word the same way?
