Kyle Tobin Turner Pilgrimage
Turner describes pilgrimage as something of ancient origin, but not until major religion came about did pilgrimage truly emerge. Most humans go on a pilgrimage seeking a relationship or stronger relationship with ones religion. I feel that going on a pilgrimage to find a relationship with a higher power would work well because an individual as a lot of time to reflect on life and the world without the interference of today's hectic society. Additionally, I that being on a pilgrimage could get a little wild and dangerous because if something were to happen there would be no one around to here your cry for help, besides the wild animals. Turner emphasizes this when saying, "Not only may the way be long, it is also hazardous, beset by robbers, thieves, and confidence men aplenty, as well as by natural danger and epidemics. On a pilgrimage a person may experience a communitas, which is a close knit feeling of a group of people undergoing the same struggles and doings. I feel that encountering this communitas heightens the experience of a pilgrim because it allows a person to communicate with others and gives a pilgrim a reassurance of his/her journey. I think a pilgrimage would be a great learning experience and going on one could possibly change ones life drastically.
