Dana Reynolds - Toad Lilies

Many of the aestheticians that we’ve discussed have only talked about art made by man, not the beauty that can be found in nature. I work with plants, and one of my favorite flowers is the unassuming Toad Lily. The above link is a photo of one, which makes it look deceptively large, but in reality the bloom is only about an inch in width. As you can see, they are spotted, and the leaves resemble orchids, but they are perennial in the garden and bloom in late fall/early winter. I find these particularly beautiful because the flowers tend to be hidden until one looks closely at the plant. Nature has created some truly beautiful things in the world, you just have to take the time to look and you will see any number of them.
