Austin Kaseman "Chora and Kairos"

I found reading and writing about Lane's definitions of Chora and Kairos to be pretty interesting. It's interesting to consider the idea of a place you're in to affect your emotions different at times. Depending on your mindset, a place can have have different affects on you no matter how many times you visit it. I spent a lot of time writing about this topic in my research paper. Combining Chora and Kairos is supposed to be an extremely rare moment in a persons life, which got me to in a deep state of thought, trying to remember a time the two have come together in my life. I found that I've encounter moments of Kairos more than Chora. Locations don't seem to have as much of an effect on me as certain moments in time do. When the two come together it really is a remarkable experience, and off the top of my head I can only think of two moments of that happening.

The two moments did have to do with historic landscapes. The first being the very first time I went hiking, and was able to experience nature to the fullest for the first time. That day ended up changing my outlook on many things, as well as develop a passion for new things in life. The second was the time I visited St. Andrews, Scotland, the birthplace of golf. I've grown up around the sport all my life, and it occupies a deep place in my heart. Getting to play there and visit the historic landscapes of another country had a profound effect on me.
