Kyle Tobin Medley of Class Experiences
I decided to use of one my student choices as comprising numerous class lectures and notes into one blog. A lot of days in the class we discussed the Appalachian Trail and the Camino de Compostela and all the crazy stuff that happened on them. For instance one trip a student had his backpack stolen by a bear and the student proceeded to chase the bear until eventually getting his pack back. The numerous days of story telling and discussing the trails were filled with a lot of laughter and learning. I feel that visualizing type of learning is very effective because it allowed me to actually see what the environment and situations some people were put in. Additionally, we spent some class periods listening to music and discussing the significance of the lyrics and how they related to the classes subject. I learned that wilderness is not a human habitat because humans work back and forth with ones habitat and it is not until a human uses the environment to his advantage is it his habitat. All in all I felt this class was a great experience because it was taught in a different way than most other teachers. Learning through stories and past memories allowed me to stayed interested and want to come to class each day.
